Best time to Dive the South Pacific & Asia
|

It may be Spring now, but the long hot Summer days are still a few months away, and Winter hasn’t yet released it’s grip on us.
Meanwhile, the forecast for our South Pacific and Asian neighbours is for blue skies and a balmy high of 28º, with water temperatures around 27º and underwater viz of 25 –35 metres. Expect an icy cold beverage to appear around sunset, and a candlelit table to keep you warm for al fresco dining in the evenings.
We are lucky in NZ and Australia to have so many of the World’s best diving and tropical holiday locations only a short flight away. We know that hundreds of our clients managed to escape our gloomy Winter to recharge their batteries, soak up some sun, enjoy some fantastic tropical diving and use up that extra week of holiday.
Spring into action now and plan your own inspiring dive holiday. The best time to dive in the South Pacific is July – early November, and the best time to plan for next year is NOW! You know what they say – the early bird gets the best deals! See our article on Planning your trip Early.
But if you just can’t wait til next Winter, the diving is phenomenal in the South Pacific there right now, and there’s still space available on most dive boats and in many dive Resorts. So get there now!
Best time to Dive: July to Early November

| One of the great aspects of my job is seeing all the wonderful images |
One of the great aspects of my job is seeing all the wonderful images and hearing all the stories of our clients’ awesome adventures, from divers swimming with whalesharks in PNG or shark diving in Fiji, to the eerie depths of penetration dives in wrecks off the Solomons, PNG, Truk Lagoon or Vanuatu.
But every now and then, one such adventure stands out, and this Winter it was Geoff Tizard’s truly amazing and inspirational dive holiday to Tonga, with Mother Nature at it’s best. Read his “Tonga Trip Report” and see those humbling images of humpback whales.

The recent devaluation of the Fiji $ makes Fiji even better value. Combine this with specials Dive Fish Snow Travel has with Matava Resort, and you will save even more.
Kadavu Island, Fiji
- The Great Astrolabe Reef
- The manta ray dive is sure to be the highlight
- Matava Resort – Recognised as a great eco resort
A 1 hour scenic flight from Nadi gets you to Kadavu Island, home of The Great Astrolabe Reef. This fringing reef extends along the entire southern side of Kadavu, stretches for over 120km, and is rated as one of Fiji's premier diving locations. Here you’ll find virgin reefs crowded with purple and pink soft corals, great vis of 25+ metres, a huge variety of fish life and great pelagics, plus an equally diverse range of both hard and soft corals. The area abounds in fish life including schools of sharks, wrasse and barracuda. At one spot regular visitors are giant manta rays, some with spans of up to 4-5 metres. This is one of the few dive sites in the South Pacific where you are almost guaranteed to dive with mantas.
The dives are all boat dives and you will usually do 2 dives each day with a surface interval back at the Resort or on a local sandy beach. The boats are custom built dive boats, staffed by experienced qualified dive instructors with years of experience. . More on Kadavu Island »

Special Dive Charters to Remote dive location 2010
You often hear, or read about, divers’ amazing experiences in remote dive locations, featuring stories of manta rays, hammerhead sharks, pilot whales, pristine untouched reefs, WWII shipwrecks, caves and a profusion of technicolour marine life.
You too can become part of these adventures. Here at Dive Fish Snow Travel, it is our passion, and our pleasure, to help clients experience their own diving dreams and adventures. Let us help you plan your next dive trip overseas.
Dreams don’t just happen overnight. They need nurturing and planning. Early. Which brings us to the main message here: Planning early has huge rewards and savings.
Now is your opportunity to have your say on getting to those far flung remote locations. We would welcome your input in our planning for diving trips in 2010/11.
We all know that part of the fun of a dive trip is the camaraderie, fun and enduring friendships of a group of like minded divers having fun together, as well as booking liveaboards during prime time dive conditions and going to premium locations that otherwise might not be available.
We are in the planning stages of putting 3 charters together for 2010 and welcome your ideas and thoughts. But here's something to get you started:
Komodo, Maldives, Indonesia, Galapagos, Cocos Island, Solomons.
| Check out some of the best Manta Ray, and whale shark footage I have ever seen, taken at Maldives, where we are looking at diving next September. Video on Youtube » |

| Why dive the South Pacific + Asia? |
The avid diver knows the advantages of going on a tropical dive holiday:
- Remote unspoiled reefs,
- Superior marine life like mantas and eagle rays or big schools of fish,
- Underwater photography of the colourful critter that make their homes in the kaleidoscopic tapestry of coral reefs,
- A great adrenalin rush of sharks and shark feed dives.
- Snorkelling in cobalt blue waters and getting up close and personal with a humpback whale and her newborn calf,
- Exploring WWII wrecks, planes and subs,
- exciting drift and wall dives with bottomless drop offs.
There’s much more to diving overseas: You’ll find well run professional dive resorts where the focus is on YOU, and getting you Down Under every day, where the weather and water conditions are perfect for diving just about every day.
But wait; there’s more!….
Non Diving Partner: An increasing number of our clients these days are heading to dive resorts that cater for non diving partners. Indulge in your passion during the day, and romance your partner by night.
Families: Many Dive Resorts are family friendly. While you’re out diving, the kids are being cared for at Kids Clubs and having a fantastic time. And teenagers are picking up the sport of diving in warm tropical waters that will spark a life long passion underwater.
Many divers feel that to go on an exciting dive holiday you need to be a real “gung-ho” diver with thousands of logged dives. Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Diving in the Tropics is made easy with warm water (so you can wear lighter wetsuits), great viz, and experienced dive teams around you to ensure you are diving within your limits and safety. Many of the best dives overseas are shallow, coral gardens and some wrecks close to the surface, so they are suitable for beginners. And you are never going to find the amazing array of corals, WWII wrecks and tropical marine life like this anywhere in NZ.

So if you’ve never considered a dive holiday to the South Pacific or Asia before, now is the time to give us a call. Let the professionals in dive holidays help get you started on your next dive adventure. We only recommend, and use, professional dive resorts that offer the most exciting diving in their area, and we’d love to expand your diving boundaries beyond NZ and introduce you to the wonders of the tropical Underwater World.
