Fatboys
Secluded, Pristine, Tropical Paradise, Exotic, Dream destination...
You’ve heard it all before, but at Fatboys in the Solomon Islands Western Province town of Gizo, it’s all true, and so much more. This is a truly unique resort.
In fact, it has won the Editors Choice award in the last 2 editions of Lonely Planet’s Guide Book for PNG and Solomon Islands Edition
Fatboys is a small family run resort owned by ex-patriate Australian Grant Griffiths and his Solomon Island wife Turia.
The name ‘Fatboys’ is derived from the character ‘Joe the Fatboy’ in the book “The Pickwick Papers” by Charles Dickens. Young Joe is a cheeky, lazy young man with an unsatiable appetite for food, sleep and doing as little work as possible. When you stay at Fatboys Resort, you’ll become like Joe- Drinking, Eating and Sleeping, all befitting a Fatboy.
At Fatboys Resort the staff go that extra yard to make your holiday with one to remember. They appreciate have worked hard to get there so they work hard to look after you once you arrive.
The Bar and Restaurant is built 100m out over the crystal clear waters of Babanga Island, enjoying incredible 360º views to Kennedy Island (of the shipwrecked John. F. Kennedy fame) and the majestic Mt Kolombangara in the distance. The restaurant serves great food with the chefs specialising in fresh seafood dishes. The guys in kitchen are heavy handed with the spices and the servings but know how to cook your seafood NOT OVERDONE !
All drinks are chilled on ice and the bar is a great place to relax at the end of the day with a glass of vino, a cold beer or simply a refreshing bushlime cocktail.
The Fatboys bar has been rated by ‘GetLost’ Travel Magazine as one of the top 5 Bars in the South Pacific, so you need to check it out!
Accommodation
Fatboys has 5 bungalows built using local tropical hardwoods and ‘bush materials’. Quality imported furniture, bedding and fixtures tastefully complete the bungalows. Great care has been taken to combine the old with new. All bungalows have been built over the water and afford the most incredible views.
Diving: Fatboys concentrate on running a resort and looking after you and leave the diving to the professionals. While they don’t have their own diveshop, the dive operator will pick you up from here for a great day’s diving, and will return you to Fatboys just in time for a cold refreshing beverage!
