Located a two-hour drive north of Vancouver up the newly-expanded Sea to Sky Highway, a ribbon of road renowned for its scenery, is Whistler, home to Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, which together consistently rank as North America’s top ski and snowboard resort. This is where your big mountain dreams become reality.
Together Whistler and Blackcomb boast one vertical mile of unparalleled skiing and riding with over 16 alpine bowls, three glaciers, 200 trails, and 3306 hectares of skiable terrain. The choices of where and what to ski/ride at Whistler Blackcomb from beginner to advanced terrain are staggering, whether you’re a first timer to the slopes or a seasoned pro.
Joined at the base by a vibrant pedestrian village filled with award-winning après bars, restaurants, patios, cafes, shops, galleries and spas, and surrounded by breathtaking vistas, this four-season resort is spectacular 12 months a year. In the northern winter, uninterrupted skiing, riding and sightseeing is available and the best deals of the season are guaranteed if you book through Dive Fish Snow Travel before November 15.
Whistler Blackcomb continually raises the level of mountain excitement for its guests. In December 2008 it opened Peak 2 Peak, the world’s longest free-span gondola, a 4.4 kilometre, 11-minute ride that connects the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. This February the behemoth twin ski fields welcome the world as a host venue for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
During the months before and after the Games Guests from around the globe will experience the legendary Whistler hospitality: unbelievable value, minimal crowds, the breathtaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, award-winning terrain and phenomenal snow. During the Games, Whistler will play host to Olympic and Paralympic alpine skiing, biathlon and cross-country skiing, as well as Nordic combined, ski jumping, bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. The resort of Whistler was in fact born on an Olympic dream: Franz Wilhelmsen, the man who opened Whistler for skiing in the 1960s, did so in hopes of hosting the Games there.
