Accommodation in Japan Ski Resorts varies from fairly basic with small rooms and the bare necessities, eg small wardrobes (if any), small beds and small bathrooms, to the latest new Western style accommodation, with all the mod cons & modern decor. We have listed below some examples of the many different types of accommodation available.

Hotels
Some Hotels have ski in / ski out accommodation, or are located a short walk to lifts. There are hotels of varying standards to suit all budgets. Many have a huge range of facilities and amenitieis, such as souvenir shops, restaurants and karaoke bars, onsens, or are close to other restaurants & bars.
Pensiones
The Pensione style of accommodation is the most prevalent in Japan and offers a truly Japanese experience. Pensiones are like a B+B, backpackers hostel and old country style hotel all rolled into 1, usually run by local families. The service and food is always good. En-suite bathrooms are rare, as are rooms with double beds. It is highly recommended to book this style of room early to get the one that will best suit you.

Lodges
Lodges are a larger version of a pensione, but usually have en suite bathrooms. They usually offer more amenities, like games rooms, large Japanese style onsen baths, a common lounge and bar area, small restaurant or common kitchen where you can cook your own meals. Lodges are also usually located closer to the lifts.
