Located a two-hour drive north of Vancouver up the newly-expanded Sea to Sky Highway, a ribbon of road renowned for its scenery, is Whistler, home to Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, which together consistently rank as North America’s top ski and snowboard resort. This is where your big mountain dreams become reality.
Together Whistler and Blackcomb boast one vertical mile of unparalleled skiing and riding with over 16 alpine bowls, three glaciers, 200 trails, and 3306 hectares of skiable terrain. The choices of where and what to ski/ride at Whistler Blackcomb from beginner to advanced terrain are staggering, whether you’re a first timer to the slopes or a seasoned pro.
Joined at the base by a vibrant pedestrian village filled with award-winning après bars, restaurants, patios, cafes, shops, galleries and spas, and surrounded by breathtaking vistas, this four-season resort is spectacular 12 months a year. In the northern winter, uninterrupted skiing, riding and sightseeing is available and the best deals of the season are guaranteed if you book through Dive Fish Snow Travel before November 15.
Whistler Blackcomb continually raises the level of mountain excitement for its guests. In December 2008 it opened Peak 2 Peak, the world’s longest free-span gondola, a 4.4 kilometre, 11-minute ride that connects Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. This February the behemoth twin ski fields welcome the world as a host venue for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
During the months before and after the Games
Guests from around the globe will experience the legendary Whistler hospitality: unbelievable value, minimal crowds, the breathtaking PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, award-winning terrain and phenomenal snow. During the Games, Whistler will play host to Olympic and Paralympic alpine skiing, biathlon and cross-country skiing, as well as Nordic combined, ski jumping, bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. The resort of Whistler was in fact born on an Olympic dream: Franz Wilhelmsen, the man who opened Whistler for skiing in the 1960s, did so in hopes of hosting the Games there.
 |
 |
While the Games are on most runs will be open to visitors on Whistler Mountain with the exception of the Dave Murray Downhill, Raven, Franz’s Run, and Wildcard Runs. No runs will be closed to the public on Blackcomb Mountain. The result? Ninety per cent of the resort’s 3,306 hectares are available throughout the Games, accessed from three of the four base areas. The world is very welcome to visit Whistler during the Games and be part of this incredible event.
Some Olympic venues will close in the months preceding the Games, due to a combination of security and final preparations for competition. Olympic athletes from Canada and many other countries will be at Whistler off and on, training and checking out new facilities.
- Visit Whistler pre-Games and you’ll get a sneak preview of the excitement to come.
- Visit Whistler during the games and you’ll still be able to ski most of the huge mountains, watch some of the Olympic events, and the atmosphere off-piste will be electric! Huge TV screens around the village will showcase the action, parties will be in full force everywhere, and a huge buzz of excitement in the whole village. Be a part of this incredible event!
- Visit Whistler after the Games, and who knows what adventure awaits? You may be keen to try out the luge and some of the race courses yourself!

Whistler Blackcomb has just got a whole lot better.
Imagine North America's #1 Ski resort. Now imagine North Amierica's #1 Ski resort at it's proudest moment. Imagine the world class facilities, glitz and glamour, major ski resort upgrades, new improvements to showcase everything in preparation for the world to view.
Now imagine you being part of that excitement and History and being able to say that I skied Whistler Blackcomb the same year they hosted the Winter Olympics. How often do you get that opportunity?
- All olympic construction completed
- Heaps of availability before and after the Olympic Games
- Prices comparable to Last season and in some instances even cheaper
- What are you waiting for ? Be part of the story

Addressing some of the concerns.
- Olympics : Prices sky rocket
Not True, Dive Fish Snow Travel has some amazing deals outside Olympic dates to intice you. In many cases it is even cheaper than last year.
- Can't get availability
Yes and No: Outside the Olympic dates Accommodation specials are still available, other than normal peak season like Christmas, New year is always tight when booking this close to Christmas, Olympics? well that is another story, most accommodation is now available in Vancouver City.
Fact Vs Fiction
Everyone has an opinion when an event is on the world stage such as the Winter Olympics, Should I go? Should I hold off? Am I going to pay through the nose?
The bottom line: If you are still uncommitted to a Ski destination in December/January and Early March, Whistler should be high on your list.
